Ayrshire Historian, author and after-dinner speaker, Donald L Reid, has a deep and abiding love for Ayrshire, especially the Doon and Garnock Valleys. He hopes you enjoy visiting this small site and that you return at some time in the future. He hopes to keep it right up to date with speaking engagements.

I can do no better than begin with a short but lively quotation from two of my own favourite poets:

"And let the lesson be, to be yourselves,
And dinna fash if its to be ocht else;
To be yourselves, and to mak that worth being,
Nae harder job to mortals has been gi'en."
Hugh McDairmid

"We plug away, we make no fuss,
Our feats are never crowned,
But then its commom coves like us
that makes the world go round;
And as we steer a steady course,
By Gods predestine plan,
Hats off to that almight force - The Ordinary Man.
Robert W Service
